Southmead Hospital, Bristol
After successfully completing the enabling and demolition works of phase one of the multi-million pound redevelopment of Southmead Hospital, Bath Demolition were awarded the contract for phase two during 2017/2018 and the subsequent Phase 3 works in 2019.
The contract works were sensitive in nature, as they were to be carried out alongside an active hospital, taking into consideration the daily movement of patients, staff, hospital visitors and construction traffic.
The delivery and complexity of the contract was enhanced having to work with asbestos surveying teams within the decanted hospital assessing their findings, formulating removal costs strategy and dealing with key program delivery dates being moved due to asbestos positive identifications.
Sustainability was high on the agenda, and through a series of pre-demolition audits we were able to identify items that could be re-used or recycled or offered to local free enterprise projects.
The contract was delivered free of lost time injury, mitigating environmental impact to best practise condition and within the tight delivery constraints set by the client.
