M4/M48 Toll Booth Removal

Bath Demolition were awarded the contract to demolish and remove the M4/M48 Toll Booths. The work was planned in phases in order to minimise the impact on traffic.

High traffic levels meant the project was granted total road closure overnight for demolition works to be carried out. An hour-by-hour program of works, extra resources and plant were all put in place to cover all eventualities. With a highly anticipated and nationally televised opening of the new toll-free road, it was imperative that all phases of work were completed on time and to budget.

Separation of the canopy was carried out by use of MEWPs with a Hot Works Permit in place, and removal by mechanical methods using 360 Excavator with a shear attachment. The remaining structures were demolished using 360 Excavator.

Completion: April 2019

Duration: Phased over 4 weeks
