Ministry of Defence Foxhill, Bath
Bath Demolition were awarded the enabling works for the regeneration of the former Ministry of Defence site at Foxhill, Bath.
Several ecological measures were required and implemented for the site. A comprehensive tree protection plan was put in place, following the procedures for the timing of required surveys before the demolition of structures and disturbance of vegetation could begin, e.g. avoiding the bird nesting season and conducting necessary surveys such as bat roosting surveys to ensure particular species were not occupying buildings planned for demolition. Following the removal of the asbestos and soft striping the remaining buildings were mechanically demolished using a 360 excavator down to the underside of the ground floor slab. Hardcore materials that arose from the demolition were then crushed and used fill any voids before and stockpiled for use by the client.
24 hour security was employed for the duration of the demolition works and semi-permanent hoarding was erected to secure the site throughout the redevelopment.
The former MoD site was bought with ambitious plans to develop it into Mulberry Park, a new destination for the city of Bath. Video footage of the early stages of the project is available below.
